Songea Town Council SACCOS LTD was registered in January 1988 under Certificate No. RVR 153, in accordance with the Cooperative Societies Act. The main objective of the Society is to uplift, strengthen, and develop the economic and social welfare of employees of Songea Municipal Council, in compliance with Cooperative laws, regulations, and procedures. In order to continue providing quality services to its members, Songea Town Council SACCOS LTD invites applications from qualified candidates for the following vacant positions:

1. ACCOUNT ASSISTANT I (Assistant Accountant Grade I)

1.1 Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining and recording financial transactions in accounting books.
  • Ensuring all funds received by the Society are properly receipted.
  • Preparing financial reports for required periods (quarterly, semi-annually, and annually) in line with acceptable accounting standards.
  • Preparing special financial reports in accordance with the Microfinance Institutions (Savings and Credit) Regulations of 2019 and guidelines issued by the Cooperative Development Commission.
  • Conducting bank reconciliation between bank statements and accounting books.
  • Counting assets and verifying liabilities at the end of each year and whenever required.
  • Preparing payment vouchers and keeping supporting documents for all expenditures.
  • Preparing, advising, and assisting in the development of the Society’s income and expenditure budgets and in managing Society projects.
  • Advising the Society’s management on all matters relating to finance and auditing of financial reports.
  • Verifying members’ ledger cards and daily financial transactions.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the employer.

1.2 Qualifications of the Applicant

An applicant must:

  • Have completed an Advanced Certificate or Ordinary Diploma in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, or Business Administration from a recognized institution approved by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
    • A graduate of Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) will have an added advantage.
  • Be able to use computer equipment and be willing to learn and use various ICT systems.
  • Have knowledge of the operations of Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies.
    • Experience (employment or volunteer work) in a SACCOS is an added advantage.
  • Be capable of working under moderate supervision.
  • Have a good work performance record.

Salary Scale

Salary will be based on the Society’s approved salary structure.

2. CASHIER (Finance Clerk)

1.3 Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Typing internal and external letters required by the Society.
  • Receiving all visitors, listening to their issues, directing them to the appropriate departments, and arranging appointments.
  • Receiving and dispatching all incoming letters and distributing outgoing correspondence.
  • Distributing files between departments and ensuring returned files have been worked on and returned to the responsible officer.
  • Recording and managing preliminary books including cash receipts, payment vouchers, cheque registers, and cheques, then submitting them to the Accountant for review and approval by the payer.
  • Ensuring deductions are received on time for processing.
  • Filling members’ ledger cards and members’ passbooks.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Society’s Board or Manager, and reporting to the Society Manager after completing assigned tasks.

1.4 Qualifications of the Applicant

An applicant must:

  • Have a Certificate in Secretarial Studies, Leadership, or Management from a Government-recognized institution.
    • A graduate of Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) will have an added advantage.
  • Have passed Secretarial Training Level Three and possess a shorthand certificate.
  • Have at least Form Four education or higher.
  • Be 21 years old or above at first appointment.
  • Have computer skills, especially in Windows programs, Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and Publisher.

Salary Scale

Salary will be based on the Society’s approved salary structure.

GENERAL CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS

All applicants must meet the following conditions:

  1. Must be a Tanzanian citizen aged not less than 21 years and not more than 35 years.
  2. The application letter must be attached with an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  3. Applications must include copies of:
    • Form Four / Form Six certificates
    • Birth certificate
    • All certificates mentioned under the required qualifications
  4. Testimonials and Professional Results will not be accepted.
  5. Applicants must attach two recent passport-size photographs in the application letter.
  6. Application letters may be written in Kiswahili or English.
